Zion's Archives and Library

Genealogical Research at Zion
As the oldest German congregation in Baltimore, Zion’s church registers are a good genealogical research source.

The original church registers, which date back to 1785, are stored at Zion Church. Microfilm copies of the registers (1785 to 1977) are available at the Maryland State Archives, in collection MSA SC 2600. A portion of the microfilm has also been digitized and can be viewed online. Copies of the church records are also available at the Maryland Historical Society.

For a slight fee, or voluntary contribution to the preservation of Zion’s archives, a church member can be made available to assist with specific research and translation requests.
